Hello ,

I was browsing thru a few topics and i must say that its really kind of you to help everyone here.

I have scored a 540 in my GMAT and dnt knw what to do nw. I am planning for the Sep 08 intake and i request your help in this before i miss any more deadlines.

Profile-

GMAT - 540 (42Q/22V)( 2nd attempt)
Bachelor of Management Studies ( Undergrad studies- major in finance and intl. finance ) ( Bombay University )

GPA - 1.8 ( this is acc. to what my gmat scoresheet said. In bombay we dont have the GPA system so i am unaware of how it works but my scores in school and college are all above average)

Work ex - worked in a shipping co. for 10 months and been working since the past 1 yr with a stock broking firm.

Done a few certificate courses from reputed universities. The courses were 3- 6 months in marketing, finance , advertising etc.

Taken part in sports at college level. Active participation in college events.

I would like you to advice as to which colleges should i be looking at and what should i do now .

Hi priyank1525,

Was this your first attempt at the GMAT? It may be worth taking again if you can, many applicants improve their score significantly the second time if they study effectively.

I'm not sure it's worth aiming for a 2008 start at this point - some second round deadlines are in less than a month, and it's really best to avoid R3 if possible.

To start the school selection process, you may want to visit the sticky thread on school selection.

I don't think you have calculated your GPA correctly - 1.8 would be far below average in the US. Schools that would like you to calculate it will have a calculation method, such at Columbia's at this link: https://www2.gsb.columbia.edu/emba/tools/gpa_calculator/

Hi Amy ,

I got a 540 in my second attempt.

I already have the letters ready and i guess i could make it in time for R2.

The thing is will it make substantial difference if i wait for 1 more year and then apply ? Also if i can meet the R2 deadlines should i continue with my applications for 08 ? would you suggest a third attempt (considerin i got a 390 in my first attempt) ?

Thank you for your previous inputs and if u could advice on the above..

Hi priyank1525,

If you don't think you can improve your GMAT, it would be useful to find schools that are in your range of academics to target. The businessweek.com site is a tremendous resource that offers a targeted search (start with the GMAT score range to get an idea of your range.)
