When the people of a country that has experienced only war and tyranny for over two decades feel free to go to the streets to have their voices heard, democracy is working.

a. When the people of a country that has experienced only war and tyranny for over two decades feel free to go to the streets to have their voices heard, democracy is working.

b. If the people of a country that has experienced only war and tyranny for over two decades feel free to go to the streets to have their voices heard, democracy is working.

c. Democracy can said to be working only when the people of a country feel free to go to the streets and let their voices be heard, after having experienced war and tyranny for over two decades.

d. Democracy is said to be working if the people of a country that has experienced only war and tyranny for two decades feel free to go to the streets and have their voices heard.

e. When the people of a country, which experienced only war and tyranny for over two decades feel free to go the streets to have their voices heard, democracy is working.

What kind of logic is tested in this question? Most importantly, are we looking at 'GMAT standard' question or is it just 'me-too-coaching-center' question?

We need experts comments here to check whether it is really a GMAT standard.Samarpan, can u PM any of our experts?

I think (read somewhere) in GMAT when/since is used to refer time, like, where is used to refer a place.
It looks like, an if-then conditional statement. Hence, eliminated A, C, E
Between B and D,
B = .... feel free to go to the streets to have their voices heard ... => it looks like people need to go to street to heard their voice, correct form would be, they can go to streets and their voices have heard.

i selected A because-

why do people go to the streets in order to have their voices heard therefore left with A,B............

B is using if statement which doesnt follow the if rule therefore rejected.........
E is using "to go the streets" which is awkward. It should have been "to go to the streets"...............

My guess why it is not A

In the first few words "people" should have been refered with "who"... Can we use that for people

IMO D.....i think "Democracy" should be emphasised....and the passive const...in D is correct...
C is wrong....as "after having....." gonna refer to the subject of the preceding clause...which is
democracy and hence make no sense...
