Need Advice On How To Start

by zico20 » Tue Sep 22, 2009 4:40 pm
Hey fellaz,

hoping all is well. Well, a few months ago I took the GMAT and I scored a 500. I decided to take sometime off before attacking it again. I bought some new materials and to be quite honest, my mind is wandering all over the place as to how to logically and uniformally start and utilize these resources.

The resources as follows are:

OG 12th Ed.
GMAT Verbal Review 2nd Ed.
GMAT Quantitative Review 2nd Ed.
GMAT Math Review (Kaplan 2009)
GMAT Verbal Review (Kaplan 2009)
GMAT 800 (Kaplan 2007)
Manhattan GMAT (Sentence Correction) 4th Ed
Manhattan GMAT (Critical Reasoning) 4th Ed.
Manhattan GMAT (Number Properties) 4th Ed.
Manhattan GMAT (Word Translations) 4th Ed.

Also access to the 6 CAT exams from the Manhattan GMAT website and ofcourse the GMAT Prep.

I would kindly appreciate your feedback with regards to how to handle this material in a systematic manner. In essence I'd like to get some ideas on what would be a proper schedule on how to study the materials.

Advice from past GMAT takers and tutors would be very highly appeciated. I am currently not working so I have a lot of time to spare on studying. Perhaps if someone can recommend a schedule that has been used by past takers of the exam who ofcourse scored highly :) would be appreciated

Thank you very much.

I used this post to make up my strategy.

I'd add that I went through the strategy guides first, then practiced some of their questions, but saved the official questions for last so I'd have official practice right before the test.

Now, coming up with a practice plan is no easy business: fact is, there's no one-size-fits-all formula. It really depends on your study habits: some prefer to work on one section per week, others on one section per day and others that like variety might even go for more than one section per day. The key is that no matter what you choose to do, make sure you stick to it. Most of the time it's inconsistency that kills your prep.
