"Good" weaknesses

by scielle » Wed Nov 30, 2011 11:11 am
So, my recommender has asked for suggestions on what to write about in the "3 weaknesses" section of his form.

I've given him some suggestions for "constructive criticism" points that would be aligned with my essays - you know, things that can be readily fixed by an MBA program, and ones that are actual weaknesses. (I don't want no "works too hard" or "is a perfectionist" fluff, nor anything that's not a genuine weakness but rather lack of expertise due to lack of opportunity, like no supervisory experience, for instance). But, we're still kinda stuck.

So I'm curious - what do people write about here? What are some valid examples we can sink our teeth into?

Well, actually recommenders can write "fluff". They don't have the same obligation as you to write a "real weakness", and writing fluff as a weaknesses is a standard form of politeness or appreciation. but you can also write real weaknesses if you like. There are plenty of good ones, but the best place is to start from the honest ones. For example maybe you are too hasty in your work, and you need to slow down. Okay no problem. Most weaknesses will work, just it's good if the Adcom sees that you have worked on it, and that it's one that is improvable and not personal (so no "he's really a mean guy")
