Could you explain if there is any difference in usage of "only" in two sentences below

1) A is only surpassed by B

2) A is surpassed only by B

I have searched for explanations in other forums as well but couldn't get any clear explanation. This concept is used in OG 12 SC Q no.5

1) A is only surpassed by B -
means surpassed is only activity done by B to A. don't know how to articulate it better. may be you can get the idea by reading "ONLY surpassed" and nothing else

2) A is surpassed only by B
A is surpassed not by any other thing/element.
