Help Needed - SC

by [email protected] » Sun Dec 02, 2012 3:53 am
Contrary to earlier conjectures, it may be that increased atmospheric carbon dioxide as a result of burning fossil fuels would cool the globe by reducing the amount of solar energy absorbed by snow.

[A] increased atmospheric carbon dioxide as a result of burning

increased atmospheric carbon dioxide resulting from the combustion of

[C] increasing carbon dioxide in the atmosphere resulting from the combustion of

[D] carbon dioxide in the atmosphere that increase from burning

[E] atmospheric carbon dioxide that increased from burning

The given OA is B.

Honestly, I chose the answer to be C, because of tenses. As a matter of fact, carbon dioxide is ever increasing and not stopped increasing. And hence the correct answer from the meaning's perspective should be C and not B.

Could any of the experts please help...

When you use increasing it implies that it is rising levels (nit the absolute level) that causes the issue at hand.

Another problem with C is that the placement of resulting without comma just after atmosphere implies that it was atmosphere that resulted from the combustion and not the carbon dioxide.
