where to list alternative transcript?

by brightwinds » Thu Aug 02, 2012 8:07 pm
Question for the crowd--

I'm taking a class online to boost my alternative transcript. I'm just now trying to figure out where it gets listed in my application--it seems too insignificant for the resume. Is it an extracurricular activity, or just something to put in the "anything else" prompt that comes after the essays?

Thanks in advance,
Brightwinds

Hey brightwinds - great question!

There's lots of ways you can handle this (and it partly depends on the school) but the most standard approach is to write the optional essay to offer it up as explanation around low GPA or whatever. You should also include the coursework in the online application - many schools want the additional coursework listed out there, though some schools only want you to include actual degrees in that part. Check out the instructions on your specific school's app.

Sometimes people find places to mention such coursework in a main essay, like the career goals essay - it depends on how you want to finesse it.

In many cases, this is definitely a very appropriate topic for, and one of the best uses of, the optional essay.

Hope this helps!
