2 days to go (2nd attempt) only need 520

by jka » Wed Mar 28, 2007 11:42 pm
Ok so I took the GMAT just over 1month and half ago...

I don't need a high score as I have about 9 years work experience.

I have one grad school which has basically accepted me if I get 520....(THUNDERBIRD)

I got 420 the first time round, so 100 pts off.

I have been studying like crazy since then...brushed up on all my skills.

My test is on saturday....so

I took PowerPrep 570, 570 on both tests. (last week)
I took the official GMAT prep software tests 490, 530 (this week, Monday 490 and Tuesday 530)

am planning to do two more test, one PowerPrep and one GMAT Prep.

Any advise again I only need 520....my main problem is the damn data suffiency I can't understand that to save my life....(it seems my quantitive score gets crushed because of the DS)

Please any suggestions would be greatly appreciated...

err... just two days?
I'd usually suggest to take rest but for you, I think you can take one more timed test (GMATprep 2) and solve GMAT prep practise problems, and understand their method n approach.
ATB. :)

jka,

Let me know how you do. Like you, I only need 500 but I haven't taken GMAT yet. I have exactly 12 days to wing it then if not I will study my butt off. Good Luck!

BTW: How much studying did you do on your first try?

Thanks big day is tomorrow....I just did my last practise test and scored 530....so it's going to be tight...

the weird part is my math has improved drastically...my verbal has collapsed. Still having difficulties with the Data Sufficiency, but I am confident I will do it tomorrow.

I have 8 years of work experience, so I hadn't opened a book in 8 years, so I studied non-stop for about a month before I got the 420....But I was thrown off course by Kaplan (don't use it) honestly I have been using Princeton review, and the Powerprep so much better...

Will let you know what I score tomorrow...

Wish me LUCK LOTS OF IT PLEASE...

I find the DS fairly easy. maybe you are not approaching it correctly.

Anyway, I think you should aim for a much higher GMAT score. Do not settle for less. My piece of advice.

Well just finished the GMAT.....

and I got 510....not sure if that's going to cut it..

but here is a summary of what happened.

I never really studied for the AWA cause I scored a 5.5 on the first time and was pretty confident...

Well guess what the second essay was a complete mess up....it distracted me beyond belief....

I took the break smoked a cigarette tried to relax and to stay focused..

and BOOM there it was the math....question after question (not one of the 37 questions was I sure about) in the end, I just guessed...the last 4 questions....

I took a break and said to myself its now or never...

I was fairly sure of what I was doing in the verbal.. the CR was fairly easy, the SC too....but the RC was a pain in the but, I got all long ones...

and I had a feeling the questions were getting easier....

anyways....I decided to see my score

and BOOM there it was 510 couldn't believe it... I actually felt less confident this time round...but I improved my score by 90...in less the 35 days...33 days to be exact....(and I moved countries and started a new project at work all at the same time)

I am planning on submitting my scores....might take it again...not sure...right now I want to relaxXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXx

BTW here is the detailed results

Quantitative 30....31%tile
Verbal 30.......59%tile

Total 510 42%tile...

jka,

I'm really relieved that you're done but you said you might just take it again. You should, I believe 3rd is a charm. Now for your results, I'm deeply scared about my own as well. You said 37/37 you didn't know and yet you were able to get 30 correct? That was a lot better than you suspected then? Did you make educated guess or random guesses? My math is very shaky but I'm willing to give it a shot first to see. For your verbal, was it hard at all? I guess my same question for the math portion. Any answers would be appreciated because I'm really nervous and I only need 500. Thanks.

jka,

I would give it about a week or two then hit the books again. I noticed before that after long weeks of studying the day of the test seems to be where you forget things but after a few days I started remembering the things I studied. So, you never know, that might work. I have 10 days for my test.

doesnt mean that 30 items are correct. 30 is the score he got out of 60.

hi aim, The 30 out of 60 answer you said, was that the math portion total? If so, I thought that there are only 37 questions? I'm confused now, Thanks.

The 30 doesn't mean I got 30 questions right, it means my scaled score was 30. (which is the way they calculate the score depending on right answers and difficulty level of the question)

And as for doing it again, still on the fence about that....right now I am taking 2 weeks off before I even think about it again..

am glad to be part of this forum..

I am an active forum member on a Sports board and love forums....

So any help I can give from my experience I would be glad to give it...but as you see can't help with your results.... :D
