As the honeybee's stinger is heavily barbed, staying where it is inserted, this results in the act of stinging causing the bee to sustain a fatal injury.

B. As the heavily barbed stinger of the honeybee stays where it is inserted, with the result that the act of stinging causes

I would choose D

A- This just awkward and poorly worded

B- Same as A

C- The honeybee's stinger doesn't actually result in anything, its the act of stinging that results in something

D- Correct

E- The prepositional phrase "with the result" is vague and it is not clear what it is modifying.

IN D..what does the "it" refer to?? I think the pronoun reference is bit Ambiguous!!

IMO D is correct IT in D correctly refers to stinger......honeybee is in prepositional phrase and so can not be a sub.......further in D stays and results are llel
moreover in E the phrase with the result is unnecessary......

D changes meaning of sentence...

it converys that there may be some light barbed stinger too which does not stay....



IMO E although bit awkward to read (with th eresult)

What is the subject of the sentence? ---> Honeybee's stinger.

A. As the honeybee's stinger is heavily barbed, staying where it is inserted, this results in the act of stinging causing - as is used to make comparisons, we are not comparing the honeybee's stinger to anything, so out
B. As the heavily barbed stinger of the honeybee stays where it is inserted, with the result that the act of stinging causes - as is used to make comparisons, we are not comparing the honeybee's stinger to anything, so out
C. Honeybee's stinger, heavily barbed and staying where it is inserted, results in the fact that the act of stinging causes - in the fact, too wordy, out
D. The heavily barbed stinger of the honeybee stays where it is inserted, and results in the act of stinging causing - ok, alot of errors with this sentence, what does it refer to, honeybee or honeybee's stinger, honeybee is closest to it, so it should refer to honeybee, but that's not what we want, further "results in act of stinging causing" - this just sounds weird - OUT
E. The honeybee's stinger is heavily barbed and stays where it is inserted, with the result that the act of stinging causes - This sentence makes honeybee's stinger the subject, it clearly refers to honeybee's stinger - Clear winner !!
