Stations X and Y are connected by two separate, straight, parallel rail lines that are 250 miles long. Train P and train Q simultaneously left Station X and Station Y, respectively, and each train traveled to the other's point of departure. The two trains passed each other
after traveling for 2 hours. When the two trains passed, which train was nearer to its destination?
(1) At the time when the two trains passed, train P had averaged a speed of 70 miles per hour.
(2) Train Q averaged a speed of 55 miles per hour for the entire trip.
A. Statement (1) ALONE is sufficient, but statement (2) alone is not sufficient.
B. Statement (2) ALONE is sufficient, but statement (1) alone is not sufficient.
C. BOTH statements TOGETHER are sufficient, but NEITHER statement ALONE is sufficient.
D. EACH statement ALONE is sufficient.
E. Statements (1) and (2) TOGETHER are NOT sufficient.

X----------------Y 250 miles
let distance covered by train p be r
so distance by y = 250 - r
St.1) r/70 = 2 -r = 140 , 250 -r =110
so P is nearer to its destiny ============suff.
St.2) (250-r)/55 = 2 --> 250 -r = 110 --> r = 140 =====suff.

It would be useful to consider relative speed over here.
Let speed of P be P miles per hour and that of Q be Q miles per hour.
Relative speed will be P + Q.

Now, the trains passed each other after traveling for 2 hours.
Henc ,t=2 hours.

Statement 1:-P = 70 miles/hour
But speed of Q is not given hence impossible to find relative speed.

Statement 2:-Q = 55 miles/hr
But speed of P is not given hence impossible to find relative speed.

Considering both 1 and 2 ,
we have Rel. speed = 70+55 =125 miles /hr.
D=250 miles
Hence sufficient.C is the answer
