Trouble with GMAT Prep software

by hulahooporiginal » Thu Dec 20, 2012 11:37 pm
hi guys,

I took a practice test on the gmat prep software. Did not have time to review my results immediately after the test but when I wanted to review later, I could not. All i can see is the score. When i click on it, i can see my score on each of the three sections but not a breakdown of my entire report. What should i do?

Very annoying!

This is a problem that the test-makers are hoping to fix.

Thank you Brent. Glad you replied since i am actually following the 60 day study guide closely. If this is an issue, i'd suggest that as part of the program, you recommend taking other practice tests since the results can be reviewed repeatedly and the discrepancy cannot be too high! The question bank is obviously great for practice, just not for tests. I'd still do the GMAT Prep test, but i just dont know what to work off. On MGMAT, i scored 530 thrice and on GMAT Prep i scored 460 and i cannot even review the results. Gutted!

Please help.

The inability to review the GMATPrep practice tests is a relatively new glitch that the test-makers are planning to fix. This practice test is far too valuable to remove from the Study Guide. In fact, the Guide has students write each GMATPrep practice test twice (the Guide also has students take several 3rd-party tests).

The official GMATPrep software uses official GMAT questions and the official GMAT scoring algorithm. Also keep in mind that the test-makers collect a lot of data on every single question, and every question has been asked in a formal testing environment so that the well-prepared test-takers are trying their best to answer every question. Given all of this, the official practice tests are bound to the most accurate.

That said, my feeling is that you can't have too many practice tests.

Cheers,
Brent

Ok, fair enough. How do I identify my strengths and weaknesses in that case? Basically I am trying to pin point my weak areas and really fix them so that I can give my score the boost it needs. I was really hoping for the official software to help me do this. But in its absence, what would you recommend is the best alternative?

You still have the option of reviewing the test. You just need to do so before exiting the application.

Another way to identify your strengths and weakness is to use the Error Log (aka Improvement Chart) while completing questions from the Official Guide (OG). You can find the free downloadable Improvement Chart here: https://www.beatthegmat.com/mba/gmat-error-log

I've attached here as well.

Brent
