Why is the verbal so hard on the actual test?

I took my 2nd GMAT test today and scored 640(44Q and 33V). which is not great but a noticeable improvement over my previous score of 600 (q40 V33!!!)

The frustrating thing is that on my MGMAT practice tests I scored 38 & most recently 41 on verbal, while I got a 37 on the GMAT Prep 1.

Why is it that my verbal is stuck on 33 on the actual test? I consider myself to be pretty good at it when I do practice problems and tests.

Can I please get some advice on how to improve my verbal on test day. I have the most trouble with RC and CR on the actual test.

Many people feel that Manhattan's verbal section is easier than the official test, so you should take that score with a grain of salt.

How's your timing?

Without knowing more about your situation, it's difficult to recommend strategies for improvement. I recommend that you take some time to thoroughly analyze your tests. What kind of CR problems are challenging you the most? You could also try an LSAT book if you feel you've exhausted your current resources.
