Online application - personal information

by resilient » Wed Mar 05, 2008 1:50 pm
I am going through the online application or a specific EMBA program. One specific yet NOT REQUIRED question asks for salary information. I left it blank. Is this a problem, will it come up in interview and why are they asking this? I like to keep those things private. Any suggestions?

Dear Engin:

If the question is optional and you do not feel comfortable giving the information, then leave it blank. It does not hurt you to leave optioanl questions blank.

Salary data is asked for because it is used by many of the rankings as a quality measure. Programs also like to see the differential between the average salary for the class upon matriculation versus the average salary for the class upon graduation. How much you make in salary does not factor heavily, if at all, into the admissions decision process.
