So X as to Y vs So X that Y

So X as to Y vs So X that Y

Hi everyone,

The artist was so famous as to barely being able to step out of his house without being accosted by fans and photographers.

Apart from the issue of two "beings" used in the above sentence, I'm not sure why "so ..that" will be a correct idiom than "so...as to..".

Can anyone please help me understand the difference between two idioms and their usage?
