HI...Need advice on the Gmat

by Shoa » Sat Nov 27, 2010 7:57 am
Hi,
I just gave my gmat and got a score of 490. I was interested in applying for the second round which now looks impossible.
If i give my gmat at the end of Jan....2011, is it still possible to apply to the US. Also, a lot of people have told me that the colleges will consider both your score. Does this mean that this first score will prove to be a serious disadvantage.

The scores were as follows
Scaled Percentile

Quant 28 22
Verbal 30 55
490 32

Also why is there such a big difference between the verbal and quant percentile when both the scores are almost similar.

Thanks

Dear Shoa,

Most schools consider only your highest total score when evaluating you for admission. You need to focus on your preparation and do your best on that retake. Since you do have to wait 31 days between test attempts, I think R2 deadlines might be out of reach, but it will depend on the school as some schools have R2 deadlines in January. Right now, I think your focus should probably be on the GMAT as you will want to get your score up to have a shot. In terms of how the test is scored, please visit mba.com for details on how the test is evaluated. There are differences in terms of number of questions and points given, so that accounts for some of the difference between verbal and quant.

Good luck,
Lisa
