I am in the process of writing my essays for the application to a few graduate schools. I am a weak applicant, in that I have little work experience, a low GPA, and a low GMAT score. I want to convey in my essay that I have turned things around and that I am taking the MBA program and its processes very seriously. Any suggestions on how to convey this in my essay or should I leave my shortcomings out? Thanks for all of your help
The independent clause in the 2nd sentence is mind boggling to me. "I am a weak applicant" - if you think so... then the AdComs. DO NOT leave out your shortcomings... explain them otherwise the Adcom will be left to their own vices and you wouldn't want that. If you have that many holes in your candidacy maybe you should think about making your profile stronger. Maybe someone else can comment too but you do not want your application to be more about you explaining your shortcomings rather than explaining your strengths and what you bring to the table
The components you pointed out are all relative... i wonder if it's as bad as you're making it out to be.
Little work experience - how little work experience do you have? do you have 4 years and you're applying to an EMBA program? then yes that's probably not going to cut it. If it is truly like a year or so you'll have to convey how the quality of your work is better than others...
Low GPA - is your GPA really that low? a 3.4 is not low... now a 2.4 is low...think about building an alternative transcript
Low GMAT - is your GMAT score low compared ot the 770's on this site? where are you applying? what's the middle 20-80% range for those schools? if it's truly low then maybe you should take it again
