Advertisements are powerful tools of marketing. Let it be in a page in a local newspaper or a 1 and half minute spot in national television they can be made so powerful in presenting an unknown entity in to a well know commercial element. In late 1950s, when television started to appear in the living rooms, advertisements were strictly focussed in the material it is trying to advertise. But now, it is not the case, advertisements are funny and smart. Even the serious subject can be conveyed so light with a touch of humor. To take a position in the given issue, we have to determine whose ideas are being conveyed by an advertisement.
No matter what, the goal of an adverstisement is to advertise a product in hand. How it conveys differs from company to company. For eg. consider the advertisements of a brokerage firm, eTrade. Thier commercials are well know as the talking baby commercials and they are very funny. So, those commercials basically use infants, with graphics make them talk to promote their finance tools and portfoliio management. Considering this, can we make a conclusion that eTrade is taking their business light and funny. Absolutely not. So, eTrade commericials give us information or introduce their products to the public in a funny way and deriving any ideas or characterstics about eTrade from the commercials would seem illogical. Further, today's commercials are created in a way to attract audience there by people will remember it and talk about it more. The audience who watches them don't relate the commercial with the underlying company to determine its ideas and characteristics. Hence, when an advertisement can not tell the ideas of a company how can it tell the ideas of a nation?
It will be illogical to suggest that a country which allows to air commercials with violent content during their prime time supports violence. The mentioned scenario only suggest that the country's media censor board is liberal and the advertisements does not give any idea about the nation as a whole and deriving such conclusion would be illogical.
