SC - What's wrong here?

by karthikpandian19 » Wed Jun 13, 2012 10:20 pm
I could neither see flags flying high above the crowds nor floats drifting through the crowd.

What is wrong with this sentence or is it correctly written?
Regards,
Karthik

This is not correctly written : the correct one will be -

I could see neither flags flying high above the crowds nor floats drifting through the crowd.

Hope this helps !!

I hoped there are 2 ways to write this:

1.
I could see neither flags flying high above the crowds nor floats drifting through the crowd.
as mentioned by you

2. I could neither see flags flying high above the crowds nor see floats drifting through the crowd.

This is indeed redundant. In fact, the main purpose of parallelism is in question here.

The verbs are generally repeated when the second verb is different :

I could neither see flags flying high above the crowds nor another verb floats drifting through the crowd.

Hope this helps !!
