Which course to take?

by Musicolo » Thu Apr 23, 2009 12:22 am
Dear all,

Here is my question for all of you :)

I am a legal consultant with no previous official education in business. I am planning to do a business degree and was aiming at MBA at some of the highly ranked European business schools, particularly in France and Britian. However, I was, and still am, considering other masters in management programs, and not only MBA.

I have recently applied for Masters in European Business at ESCP-EAP in France, top tier French and European business school. Two country program with official classification as MSc in Business and Management. I was accepted and offered a place. I should let them know what I plan to do in coming weeks, or even days.

Should I still pursue MBA? I am afraid of not getting a good score at GMAT and failing to get into MBA at HEC, RSM or Esade, EM Lyon and similiar schools. ESCP offers Executive MBA but they want you to have at least 7 years of professional experience so that one is out since I only have 3 years of experience in legal industry. What if I don't get into MBA and I decline offer from ESCP-EAP?

I am interested in business degree since I would consider making a slight move towards management consulting afterwards. ESCP has excellent links with major international companies in Europe, Mckinsey, BCG, Louis Vuitton and the likes, the program encompasses real company consultancy project and three months internship usually with major international compaies but its up to each student to choose. Its twice less expensive then MBA, which i can afford from my savings without going through much hated loan programs.

What do you guys suggest. MEB or MBA considering my background and future aspirations?

Many thanks and best regards to you all.
Dino

Congratulations on being accepted into the MSc program! You face a tough decision and one that only you can make. However, I think you should consider which path will prepare you to successfully achieve your goals (solid business background plus inroads into the management consulting industry) while providing the best ROI. Don't discount the value of getting the education you need without going into debt. Best of luck on your decision!
