Call for help! Gmat in 14 days

by NityaV » Sun Feb 14, 2010 5:43 pm
Hi guys,

I ma taking the exam on 1st march..thats 14 days. Started studying mid jan for it..but started off with 640 on the first exam i took then...my scores have fallen since though i have kept the studying going..
Got a 620 on one of the Kaplan exams last night, and as much as i try not to feel all disapooied by it , I am beinning to think i am doing something wrong.

I have done the OG and just started off on the Kaplan. Tried figuring out my weak spots and have worked on them, but no drastic improvement.

Everyone seems to be rather on top of the game here...so I am really hoping someone could help me with whats the best way to go in the next 14 days....

not hoping for much...would be happy wiht anything around 700...!

Not sure which kind of CAT you took . But older Kaplan CAT scores were very much skewed . You can google on KAplan CAT and will see that people who scored 700+ generally scored around 600-650 in Kaplan . But recently they have updated their scoring algorithim . You can also search for Kaplan CAT scoring in this forum as well .

Assuming you were giving CATs which used to come on older CDs and stuffs , i would not bother much about Kaplan score . Their Verbal is indeed very good for practice as far as CAT is concerned , especially their twisted RCs .Kaplan had the reputation of low scores earlier ,but they claim that as on date they have modified their scoring algorithim to be very close to real ones. Kaplan you can limit to practice but their scores you can discount

To know where you stand at this point , it makes best sense to give GMAT Prep , test from from actual GMAT makers. The score from here is said to the best among scores you can expect in actual exam.

Others can weigh in their opinions !

You may be making the same mistake I made when I first started studying. You're two weeks out, do not go over any new material. Just reinforce strengths. Really attempt to do two problems of each problem type each day. For example, do two divisibility problems, do two distance rate and time, do two geometry, do two inequalities, do two quadratics, etc. Do this from today until like 2 days before the test. You will score the highest you can score with the current level you're, so if you feel that you are between 620-680, you should score a 680 if you do this. If you need a 700 plus, you may want to put the exam on hold.
