28 years old
3.37 Undergrad GPA at UC Irvine Major Economics
Was working full time while in school as a programmer

Founded and sold startup company for six figures 1st year out of college while working full time as a back office analyst at a major financial institution.

Used funds to purchase a motel with 7 figure revenue..still operate it.

2 years experience in mortgage capital markets as an analyst

since then ihave been with a distressed mortgage hedge fund as a trader for 2 years on wallstreet and still going..

What GMAT would I need in order to get into top 10/top 5?

My standardized testing skills are lacking and would be hard pressed to break 700

Hey cwang089,

I'm not an admission's expert, so I am sure that someone else will be able to give you better insight. That being said, I find that you have a remarkable record.

I just wanted to reassure you that getting a 700+ GMAT score is really not far fetched; it just takes some discipline and preparation. Be confident that you will beat it, and follow the advice of others on this forum. Trust me you'll be happy with the results.

thank you for the kind words. I'm concerned about my GPA and I have bad study habits. I'm pretty sure i can get a 630-640 but fear that won't be good enough

You have great credentials, so I would strongly encourage you to spend time on your GMAT prep. Even consider a prep course if needed (shameless plug, but check out Veritas Prep's GMAT service).

One thing to note - as a former finance/Wall Street candidate, you will be in one of the most competitive applicant pools, so it will be very important for you to be able to differentiate yourself (which you do with your entrepreneurship experience), but at the same time - you want to be competitive and having a good GMAT score will truly benefit you.
