Stick to the basics
|x| > 0
|x-y| gives the distance between x and y
|x| is a V shaped graph centered on (0,0) on the xy plane
|x-a| is a V shaped graph centered on (0,a) on the xy plane
When you see Qs like
|x-a| = |x-b| then x = (a+b)/2 because x is equidistant from a and b
Above all GMAT questions should be solvable in 90secs and esp. abs val problems should 90% mental. So concentrate on concepts. If you are solving huge quadratic equations, you are not going the way GMAT wants you to solve and you will loose time or might go wrong or stress your mind for a less reward etc.
And be careful abt going to various sources for practice, chances that you are demotivated are high. Stick on to OG and GMAT prep if you want real practice.
