Perfect Tense issues

Six years had passed since I last saw her.

a. had passed
b. passed
c. has passed
d. have passed

can anyone please explain me how is the correct answer [spoiler] a and not b. When clearly "passed" must have happened after "saw" happened. Also please tell me if the other way around is correct i.e. "Six years passed since I had last seen her" [/spoiler]

I think the question is wrong.

Please share the source.

Moreover it should be OA should be D

Six years have passed since I last saw her.


Reason: We are talking about time and it is still continuing. Also, since indicates the usage of present perfect tense

Hi vishalwin,

The question is from one of the grammar books of the site GMATClub.
Secondly, I feel it cannot be "have" because (I read it somewhere) when the subject of a sentence is a sum of money, or a period of time a singular verb is used.

Don't go only by the rules you read somewhere.


Eg: I have six years of experience.


Six years have passed since I graduated.


My son is six years old.


In six years he has become a billionaire.
