Hello folks,
Just got done with the exam. Got locked out of the center while I went to have a smoke between Q and V sections and lost some time but heres the first pass.
Scores at the center:
[740 Q 49(89%) V 41(93%)] Overall 97th
Practice scores:
Powerprep1: 730
Powerprep2: 700 (Q50 V34)
Powerprep3: 710 (Q50 V36)
Powerprep4: 720 (Q50 V39)
Princeton2: 650
Princeton3: 570 (Q40 V29) --
The Princeton exam results seem a bit off. The only preparation for me was OG11 and Powerprep. Kept re-installing Powerprep and took 5 practice exams on that software.
I had started studying from the OG11 in September and made some headway with the sentence corrections and data sufficiency (my problem areas). Then there was a break for one month and the bulk of my prep was in the last 3-4 weeks leading up to the exam.
To anyone taking the GMAT I can only suggest that you go with the OG11 and take as many practice tests on powerprep and princeton review. Princeton will be a bit misleading for the scores, but powerprep is the most accurate indicator +/- 20 to 30 points for your actual performance on the test day.
One strategy I used for the sentence correction in the last week was to go over all the questions numbered 70 and onwards in OG11. These seemed to get much harder and gave me very good practice. As far as DS goes, I pursued the same strategy and one week before the actual exam, I studied question nos 70 onwards.
One can look at the practice ETS paper tests in the middle of their prep but they seemed to be too easy to be useful.
Applying to Columbia, Chicago, NorthWestern, IIM Bangalore, Cornell. Does anyone have any advice on how to tune my essays? My background is BS & MS from Purdue University in EE and have been working 2 years.
