Argument rate please. Thanks in advance!

The following appeared in the editorial section of a corporate newsletter:
‘The common notion that workers are generally apathetic about management issues is false, or at least outdated: a recently published survey indicates that 79 percent of the nearly 1,200 workers who responded to survey questionnaires expressed a high level of interest in the topics of corporate restructuring and redesign of benefits programs.’

The argument concludes that workers are not generally apathetic about management issues given that a survey published recently indicates otherwise. However, in the argument it is made several assumptions that need to be proved.

Firstly, it is necessary to prove that the thought that workers are generally not interested about management issues it is common in the majority of the people. And there is no kind of evidence in the argument to support this statement.

Secondly, it is assumed that the fact that 79 percent of 1,200 workers shows interest about these issues it can be generalized to all workers of all companies. This is because only 1,200 is not a representative sample of all the population. Additionally, we don’t know the kind of job of that workers and in which companies they work.

Thirdly, the survey demonstrates that those interviewed workers show interest in corporate restructuring and redesign of benefits programs, but there are more management issues. Actually, they probably showed interest in those topics because they are directly affected if there is a change in the structure of the company they work and if the company plans a new design of benefits given that these could mean that they may lose their jobs.

Overall the argument to conclude that workers are not generally apathetic about management issues is not solid enough to support it. And more research about the assumptions behind the statement is required.
