If the board of selectman contains 4 position and if in the current election two candidate running for each position, how many different combinations of candidates could be elected at the board?

This is a Multiplication Principle of Counting question rather than a Probability questions.

The MPC says that to get the number of possible combinations, multiply the number of options for each spot.

For each spot, we have 2 choices, so the total number of combinations is
[spoiler]2 * 2 * 2 * 2 = 16.[/spoiler]
