A candy manufacturer decided to decrease the weight of each candy bar, while retaining the price. By how many cents did the per kilogram cost of candy change after the reduction in weight?

1) The weight of each piece of candy bar reduced by 9 grams.
2) The weight of each piece of candy bar reduced by 9%.

The OA is E.

The answer should be E. As we have to find the change in price per kilogram, we need to know the price of candy. Option A&B are pertaining to weight alone.

Is there a strategic approach to this question? Can someone help? Thanks!

You are correct, Since the question wants the actual value of the reduction in price, we must know the initial price. Had the question asked, "By how many percent the cost of candy change after the reduction in weight?" The answer would have been 9.89% [= {100/(100 - 9)}*100%].

Hope this helps!
