Hi All,

We're told that 5 times N is three less than twice N. We're asked to find the number that is three less than twice N. This question is essentially about 'translating'
sentences into equations and a bit of Algebra.

"5 times N is three less than twice N"...
5(N) = 2(N) - 3
3N = -3
N = -1

A number that is "three less than twice N"...
2(-1) - 3 =
-2 -3 =
-5

Final Answer: A

A. -5
B. -2
C. -1
D. 3
E. 5
We have:

5n = 2n - 3

3n = -3

n = -1

So 3 less than twice n is -2 - 3 = -5.

Answer: A
