Regarding other Exams

by soumava » Wed Jun 22, 2011 6:37 am
Hi all,

As i'm from India, I was wondering if i need to give the TOEFL/IELTS exam along with GMAT for applying is US/UK schools. I already have a GRE score of 1380. Will that provide a documented evidence of my english proficiency or do i need to sit for the above mentioned exams, as i'm from a non-native English speaking country. I'm totally confused. Eagerly awaiting your reply.

You will have to clear this with your school(s) of choice and see what their individual policy is (they will usually post these on the program's website), but as far as I know, most B-schools will require a TOEFL score as well as a GMAT/GRE score.

The good news is that the TOEFL is much easier than either the GMAT or the GRE - it is strictly a language proficiency exam, and doesn't have the logic/reasoning skills orientation that the GMAT has, nor the insane vocab requirements that the GRE presents. You will need to go through a few practice TOEFLs so as not to be surprised on the test date, but if you have already scored a minimum of 580 on the GRE verbal (assuming an 800 quantitative score), reaching a decent TOEFL score should not be too challenging for you.
