Word Problem

Q: The profit on selling 10 boxes equals selling price of 3 jars. While the loss on selling 10 jars equals the selling price of 4 boxes. Also profit percentage equals to the loss percentage and the cost of a box is half the cost of a jar. What is the ratio of selling price of the box to the selling price of the jar ?

a) 5:4

b) 3:2

c) 4:5

d) 3:4

e) 2:3

here we can make 2 equations quickly from the statement:

1)profit of selling box= 3 X selling price(jar)
2)loss of selling jar= 4 X selling price (box)

also we are given,
profit%=loss%
hence 3 X selling price(jar)/10 X Cost(box)=4 X selling price (box)/10 X cost(jar)

use the relationship: cost (box)=0.5 cost(jar)
we get

selling price(box)/selling price(jar)= 3/2

ans is (B)
