30 percent of the 150 employees in the sales department received a holiday bonus
This means that 70% of the 150 employees did NOT receive a holiday bonus
70% of 150 = 105,
So, 105 sales people did NOT get a bonus

70 percent of the 250 employees in the production department received a holiday bonus
This means that 30% of the 250 employees did NOT receive a holiday bonus
30% of 250 = 75,
So, 75 production people did NOT get a bonus

Total # of people who did not get a bonus = 105 + 75 = 180
Total # of people in the entire company = 150 + 250 = 400

Percent of all employees who did not receive a holiday bonus = (100)(180)/400
= 45%
= B

A. 40%
B. 45%
C. 50%
D. 55%
E. 60%

Answer: B
Solution:

We see that 150 x 0.3 = 45 employees from the sales department and 250 x 0.7 = 175 employees from the production department received a bonus. That is, a total of 220 employees received a bonus. Since there are a total of 150 + 250 = 400 employees in the company and 400 - 220 = 180 employees did not receive a bonus, the percent of employees who did not receive a holiday bonus is 180/400 = 0.45 = 45%.
