Hi All,

Below sentence has errors in all the red-colored places,
Jim is trying to reduce the number of soda that he drinks, at last night's party, although, his resolve to rink fewer soda was sorely tested, he found himself quaffing many of sodas.

Could you please help me in correcting the answer.

MGMAT has answer but I am confused with it.

When Soda is to be considered as Countable and Uncountable modifiers?

Correct Answer : Jim is trying to reduce the AMOUNT of soda that he drinks; at last night's party, HOWEVER, his resolve to drink LESS soda was sorely tested, AND he found himself quaffing A NUMBER of sodas.

Hi Uva@90,

This grammar issue that you're talking about is "countable" vs. "non-countable" subjects.

Countable nouns are referred to by "number" and "fewer"
Non-Countable nouns are referred to by "amount" and "less"

For example....

A "can" of soda is a COUNTABLE noun. How MANY cans of soda are there? One can, two cans, three cans, etc.

"Soda" itself is NON-COUNTABLE. How MUCH soda did you drink? Some. "Some" is not a measurement.

Rich,
Thanks for your explanation.

But I find difficulty in indentifying the countable vs non-countable.

For example,
"Jim is trying to reduce the number of soda that he drinks" --> how to conclude soda is non-countable ?

"he found himself quaffing many of sodas. " --> how to conclude soda here is countable ?

Could you please help me in differentiating.

Regards,
Uva
