What was the population of City \(x\) in 2002?

1) \(x\)'s population in 2002 increased by 2 percent, or 20,000 people, over 2001.
2) In 2001, \(x\)'s population was 1,000,000.

OA A
Let's take each statement one by one.

1) \(x\)'s population in 2002 increased by 2 percent, or 20,000 people, over 2001.

=> 2% of 2001 population = 20,000 => 2001 polpulation = 1000,000. Thus, 2002 polpulation = 102% of 1000,000 = 1020,000. Sufficient.

2) In 2001, \(x\)'s population was 1,000,000.

Since we do not have any relationship between 2001 population and 2002 population, we cannot get 2002 population. Insufficient.

The correct answer: A

Hope this helps!
