in attendance vs attending

Hi all...

Can you tell me what is the rule to reach the correct answer?

During her lecture the speaker used a map to clarify directional terms, for not everyone in attendance was knowledgeable that winds are designated by the direction from which they come
a) for not everyone in attendance was knowledgeable
b) for everyone in attendance did not know
c) with everyone in attendance not knowing
d) for not everyone attending knew
e) with everyone attending not knowledgeable

need "for" used as reason. eliminate C&E
B changes the meaning: everyone did not know... vs not everyone knew

between A and D, in attendance vs attending isn't the deal breaker, it's "not everyone was knowledgeable that" vs "not everyone knew that". D is active and more concise.

Knowledgeable is awkward, so eliminate A and E. "with everyone" is logically incorrect as we need to use "for everyone". We are between B and D. B is more wordy than D, so we arrive at D

in the original sentence, it says that some know that that winds are designated by the direction from which they come, but not everyone so "the "directional terms" is used just for those dont know.

In b, it says that nobody in attendance knows that winds are designated by the direction from which they come. WRONG.
