Eloise's aquarium contains six tropical fish. If the largest fish is 4 ounces heavier that the smallest fish, how heavy is the smallest fish?

1) If the largest fish were 6 ounces heavier, it would weigh twice as much as the smallest fish.
2) The six fish average 14 ounces in weight.

The OA is A.

Please, can any expert assist me with this DS question? I don't have it clear and I appreciate if any explain it for me. Thanks.

Say the largest fish weighs L ounces and the smallest fish weighs S ounces.

Thus, L = S + 4

1) If the largest fish were 6 ounces heavier, it would weigh twice as much as the smallest fish.

=> L + 6 = 2S

Since we know that L = S + 4, by replacing the value of L in L + 6 = 2S, we get

L + 6 = 2S => S + 4 + 6 = 2S => S = 10. Sufficient.

2) The six fish average 14 ounces in weight.

Total weight of six fish = 6*14 = 84 ounces

We cannot get the uniue value of S. Insufficient.

The correct answer: A
