Like Rousseau and Tolstoi...HELP T_T

Like Rousseau, Tolstoi rebelled against the unnatural complexity of human relations in modern society.

A. Like Rousseau, Tolstoi rebelled
B. Like Rousseau, Tolstio's rebellion was
C. As Rousseau, Tolstoi rebelled
D. As did Rousseau, Tolstoi's rebellion was
E. Tolstoi's rebellion, as Rousseau's, was

I chose "E"
but the answer was "A" :(

Why is it so?
I think E is better in the sense that it even has "as Rousseau's", so that it's even more precise!

please help

E is incorrect because Tolstoi's rebellion is compared to Rousseau...

Its both Rousseau, Tolstoi who rebelled against .... and not their rebellions who were against....

e.g. Sarah is a rebellion child
Students rebelled against new union in college.

its as simple as...


"like" introduces nouns..

"as" introduces clauses...

In E rebellion is a noun...

as cannot introduce a noun...


hence A

Tolstoi's rebellion is being compared to what Rousseau did. You can't "do" a rebellion.
Have you wondered how you could have found such a treasure? -T

We are comparing two nouns here. Rousseau and Tolstoi, hence Like will be used!
"Native of" is used for a individual while "Native to" is used for a large group

In reference to option C as wrong, will I be correct in stating the following ?

Tolstoi rebelled against the unnatural complexity of human relaitons in modern society as Rousseau.

And will I be correct in stating the following as well ?

Tolstoi rebelled against the unnatural complexity of human relaitons in modern society like Rousseau.

Please explain your reasoning.
