First convert the dimensions into improper fractions to make the calculations easier: so 2 1/2 becomes 5/2 and 1 7/8 becomes 15/8.

Now realize that when you enlarge a photograph, the ratio of the length and the width remains the same. So, first you find the ratio between the length and width:

5/2 / 15/8 = 4/3. So L/W = 4/3

Now set up a proportion with the new length. 4/3 = 4/x --> x = 3. B.
