The regular price for canned soup was reduced during a sale. How much money could one have saved by purchasing a dozen 7-ounce cans of soup at the reduced price rather than at the regular price?

(1) The regular price for the 7-ounce cans was 3 for a dollar.
(2) The reduced price for the 7-ounce cans was 4 for a dollar.
It takes time and effort to explain, so if my comment helped you please press Thanks button :)

A bird-eye-view to the question suggests that the stem needs to include both the regular price and the reduced price of a 7-ounce can of soup to answer what is asked. We are in every position to click
C
and have any credit here, without spending a drop of ink or reserve mind.

The reduced price is more than the regular price. The two hints do not corelate. I will end up paying $12 more in buying at the so called reduced price.

Did the other miss this or am I sleepy.

(1) The regular price for the 7-ounce cans was 3 for a dollar.
(2) The reduced price for the 7-ounce cans was 4 for a dollar.

(1) gives us the regular price of each of the 7-ounce cans as = $1/3.

(2) gives us the reduced price of each of the 7-ounce cans as = $1/4.

Taken together, we can find the money that one could have saved by purchasing a single 7-ounce can of soup at the reduced price rather than at the regular price as = $(1/3 - 1/4) = $1/12

and hence, we can find the money that one could have saved by purchasing a dozen 7-ounce cans of soup at the reduced price rather than at the regular price ass = 12*$1/12 =
$1
.
