If n, p, q, and r are consecutive integers, what is their sum?

A. Odd
B. Even
C. Cannot be determined

The OA is B
Solution:

Since n, p, q,and r are consecutive integers, p = n + 1, q = n + 2 and r = n + 3. Therefore, their sum, in terms of n, is n + (n + 1) + (n + 2) + (n + 3) = 4n + 6. Since both 4n and 6 are even, then (4n + 6) is always even regardless of what n is.

Answer: B
