let rate of interest on investment A is y%per annum therefore rate of interest on investment B will be 1.5y% per annum;

now consider 1) let x be the amount that linda puts in investment A and z be the amount that linda puts in investment B;

interest earned= p*r*t/100; here time=1 year;-----1)

for investment A we have; p=x and r=y; t=1; substituting in 1) we have;
50=x*y*1/100; xy=5000;----------2)
for investment B we have; p=z and r=1.5y and t=1; substituting in 1) we have;
150=z*1.5y*!/100; zy=10,000;-------3)

dividing 2 with 3 we have;
z/x=2; z=2x; i.e. amount invested in investment A is 2 times the amount invested in investment B; now from here various values are possible; hence 1 alone is not sufficient to answer the question.

2) z=2x; which we have already seen in the last step, as no new information is provided hence 2 alone is also not sufficient to answer the question..!!

combining 1 and 2 won't yield any result.. hence answer should be E
