writing pads

by ruplun » Sun Jun 26, 2011 2:13 am
At the beginning of last month , a stationery store had in stock 250 writing pads , which had cost the store $0.75 each.During the same month, the store made only one purchase of writing pads. What was the total amount spent by the store on the writing pads it had in stock at the end of last month?

(1) Last month the store purchased 150 writing pads for $0.80 each.
(2) Last month the total revenue from the sale of writing pads was $180.

Hi,
From(1): There were 250 pads(0.75 $ each) at the beginning. It purchased 150 more for 0.8$ each.
We are not sure if 150 is the total number of pads purchased in that month. Even if we assume that 150 is the number of purchased pads, we do not know how many of the total pads were sold in order to calculate the total amount spent by the store on the pads left unsold.
Not sufficient

From(2): No information about the number of pads sold and the number of pads purchased.
Not sufficient

Both(1) & (2):
No information about the number of pads sold. So, we do not know how many pads are left in order to calculate the amount spent.
Not sufficient

Hence, E
Cheers!
