@ Avik.ch, you wrote - "There were some other factor that the consumer take into consideration. B states some other factor for consideration".

And hence B answers for an alternate reason why customers still chose the older razor models over the new one, even though the newer one offered more precision.

Can anyone post the official explanation.

OA - B

SOURCE - GROCKIT

OE

A) This proposes a more nuanced explanation for the poor sales of the razor, but it tends to prove the wrong thing: if the new razor has better precision features, which are, as far as we know, no more likely to be faulty than older models, customers would be more inclined to buy it if they were concerned with shoddy haircuts and shaves.

B) This is the credited response. It suggests that, on the contrary, customers are very sensitive to the importance of precision, which is precisely why they prefer older razor models.

C) This neither proves nor disproves anything about customer preferences regarding precision.

D) This would lend support to the company's assessment, since in the absence of this other reason for people not to buy the razor one could more easily conclude that its advantages were not a selling point.

E)This does not give us all the information we need to conclude that precision was the main reason these other razors did so well: price could be a factor, as could availability, advertising, and so on.

If the argument already assumes the alternate reason then stating one of the alternate reason cannot weaken the argument. Infact, it strengthens it.

Consider this :

According to recent statistics, only high GMAT score is not enough to get in HBS.

If we write : Good work experience is an important factor to get into HBS - then this do not weaken the argument, infact this strengthens it.

This is exactly happening here.

Official explanation is not at all convincing.

there are 2 statements here & correct answer depends on which one we want to WEAKEN
1) low sales -> people do not want precision (here focus is on LINK or REASON for Low SALES)
2) precision is not important (focus is on the statement and NOT on the link)

@LAKSKANT:
i saw your detailed reply and it focuses on the LINK. Sales decreased so company concluded that precision is not important to consumers. This LINK can be WEAKENED by proving new evidence highlighting any other reason for reduction in sales and B does that, BUT

But question here is NOT to WEAKEN the LINK. Question does NOT talks about LINK, it only says that this view (precision is not important) is CHALLENGED by which of the following. So we have to provide a reason that states that PRECISION is IMPORTANT. E works here

Do you agree ?
