Let's take each statement one by one.

(1) 5x = 15

=> x = 3. We don't have any information about y. Insufficient.

(2) xy + y = 18

=> y(1 + x ) = 18

Many possible values of y, keeping x positive. Insufficient.

(1) and (2)

Plugging in x = 3 in y (1 + x ) = 18, we get y(1 + 3 ) = 18 => y = 18/4 = 9/2. Sufficient.

The correct answer: C

Hope this helps!
