A. 20
B. 25
C. 33 1/3
D. 44 4/9
E. 80
Let x = 100.
Since y is 80% greater than x, y = 100 + (80/100)(100) = 180.
x is what percent less than y?
In other words:
What is the percent decrease from y=180 to x=100?
Percent decrease = Difference/Larger * 100 = (180-100)/180 * 100 = 4/9 * 100 = a bit less than 50%.
The correct answer is
D.
