'Contributed to' is the right idiom here.

B - Not long after the commencement of the decade of the 1930s - absurd
C - usage of like is wrong
D - same as above.
E - had contributed in - is not the right tense here.

IMO A.
My question is that whether usage of such baritone singers as X and Y correct?
Yes, usage of such sentences as above and the one available in OG 12 #28 are similar and correct.
Getting defeated is just a temporary notion, giving it up is what makes it permanent.

The answer is (A) - such as X and Y is correct.

(C) is dubious because it changes the meaning with 'like.'

'like' implies that singers who were similar to Crosby and Columbo, but not necessarily Crosby and Columbo.

Hi Chris,
E is incorrect for wrong idiom usage...contributed in and not for the past perfect tense? Is that correct?
