by Haldiram Bhujiawala » Thu Mar 11, 2010 3:42 am
Q: In a forest 150 deer were caught , tagged with electonic markers, then released. A week later , 50 deer were captured in the same forest . Of these 50 deer , it was found that 5 had been tagged with electronic markers. If the percentage of tagged deer in the second sample approximates the percentage of tagged deer in the forest , and if no deer had either left or entered the forest over the preceeding week , what is the approximate number of deer in the forest ?

b) 750

c) 1250

e) 2500

1/10th of deer have electronic markers.
Also, percentage of tagged deer in the second sample approximates the percentage of tagged deer in the forest.
So, the answer is
150 x 10 = 1500 "D"
5 tagged corresponds to 50 deer
50 tagged to 50X50 deer

First sample : total 150 deers caught tagged
second sample: out of 50 only 5 were tagged. so 5 is 10% of 50

Now the stmt "percentage of tagged deer in the second sample approximates the percentage of tagged deer in the forest " means 10% of second sample is equvilaent to 150 deers of first sample.
so if 10% is 150, then 100%= 150*100= 15000

OA
D) 1500
Now, I have one question to all the students regarding my profile name. I have adopted this name just for fun , but I would like to know whether adopting this name could land me in trouble in terms of trade marks/ copyrights etc , as this is a popular name of a fast food co. in India ? I just want to be on the safe side !
