Company's new management ....

In their latest press release, the company's new management stated a plan for expansion of its operations into the global software market via a series of acquisitions in Asia and Latin America.

Question: Slight variations of choice a:

a2: the company's new management stated its plan to expand its operations

Are statements a1 and a2 correct?

No... management is a collective noun (singular) and does not match up with the pronoun 'their' earlier in the sentence.

Could you please comment on options "a1" and "a2" (these were not in the original answer choices, but wanted to see if those could be correct if they were to be in the answer choices)

Sorry if I wasn't clear... you cannot make a selection that relies on the word 'management' because it would then leave the pronoun 'their' without an appropriate noun to refer to. 'Management' is a collective noun and would require the pronoun 'its'.

Hi Deepak,
a1: states that the company's new management presented a plan to expand company's operation.
a2: means that the new management presented its plan to expand its own operation, i.e to expand management's operation.

Please correct me if I am wrong.
I'm nervous about adding a POV to answers that we've already said are incorrect, but this explanation is furthering the error. "Its" cannot refer to company, because the word 'company' doesn't exist in this sentence. The word present in this sentence is 'company's' which is a possessive describing management and cannot have a possessive pronoun refer back to it, since possessive pronouns only refer to nouns.

Does this make sense?

If I had not made these mistake, I would not have understood this question in a better way.
