610 with 47Q and 23V. (1 week ago, GMAT Prep)
680 with 49Q and 34V. (2 days ago, MGMAT)
640 with 47Q and 31V. (Yesterday, Princeton)

These are my latest test scores and today I took another practice test and here is the score:

620 with 50Q and 23V (Today, PowerPrep)

When I reviewed the test, I saw I had 35 correct and 2 incorrect answers in Quant and those 2 were careless mistakes. Everything is great about Quant.. Then I reviewed the Verbal part and here are the results of that:

Critical reasoning: 8 out of 10.
Reading Comprehension: 12 out of 15.
Annddddd
Sentence Correction: 5 out of 16.

The same thing happened in the other practice tests I took. I am okay even in RC and CR, but in SC? I am horrible and I don't know what to do other than solve questions about it. I downloaded and read lots of Idiom Lists from this site and I finished SC part of OG12, but looks like I couldn't make any progress at all...

What should I do? SC is killing my all score.

Thank you, but I don't want to pay 55 dollars for shipment of a book worth 26 dollars (I am in Turkey). It sounds stupid to me. I wish they sold its pdf for the same prize.

I guess I will have to though.

Hi Nathanalgren,

I agree with MGMAT as excellent SC guides. I've used them myself.

Consider the SC Flash lessons from GMATFix (sample), as well as the Solutions Engine to get detailed solutions and concepts as they apply to GMATPrep questions.

Good luck

Hey Patrick,

Thank you for the suggestions. I just bought the Manhattan SC, after I go through it, I will look at GMATFix.

I studied content for three days and learned a lot new things and I took Kaplan Practice test today.

I did 12 out of 16 from the Sentence Correction part and 39V. Is it easier than GMAT or MGMAT?

Hi nathanal,

That the Kaplan test shows you is that a single test isn't a reliable measure of anything in prep terms, which is why our Premier books come with 5 and our classroom course with 9. Take a look at your overall performance across all of the tests you've done, and see whether on average Sentence Correction is really low.

That being said, there are a few tips I can offer if Sentence Correction is a problem. First, don't just focus on random grammar; spend time on the specific errors that the GMAT touches on over and over again (such as subject-verb agreement, comparison traps, and parallelism) and the common warning signs those problems might be at issue (respectively gaps between subject and verb, "like/unlike", and lists of multiple items) rather than simply trust your ear on errors. Second, look to the answer choices for guidance--if you can't find an error, use differences among the answer choices to categorize, and eliminate, the various forms of possible answers. These techniques, and more, will be described in Kaplan books!

Let me know if you have any other questions that I can help you with. Good luck!

Thank you very much Eli.

I am good at catching the parallelism mistakes, subject-verb agreement and tense agreement. But I had a difficult time catching modifier mistakes, then I studied them and my sentence correction score went up to 75-80% from 25-30%. I studied not only modifier but also other types of grammar rules, but I feel I knew nothing about modifiers a week ago, now I can solve most of the questions about it.

Now one of my problems is my vocab, even though GMAT is not about vocab, it really helps to know what the words mean. And the other one is idioms, since I am not native, I am not familiar with all of the idioms. As I practice, I am getting better at it, but I still have a lot to go.

What would you suggest about these?

Also, I know one test is not reliable, but I still want to know how the Kaplan Practice tests are compared to MGMAT and GMATPrep, because I want to be able to compare them. I am going to buy both Manhattan and Kaplan tests soon, right after I finish studying content.
