Consumers may not think of household cleaning products to be hazardous substances, but many of them can be harmful to health, especially if they are used improperly.

(A) Consumers may not think of household cleaning products to be
(B) Consumers may not think of household cleaning products being
(C) A consumer may not think of their household cleaning products being
(D) A consumer may not think of household cleaning products as
(E) Household cleaning products may not be thought of, by consumers, as

OA is D

Doesn't "but many of them" need "Consumers" than "A Consumer" ?
Hope you get my doubt! Explanation would be gr8.

Wow...thats a bouncer. Luckily I chose D and here is my guess:

Consumers may not think of household cleaning products to be
(B) Consumers may not think of household cleaning products being
(C) A consumer may not think of their household cleaning products being
(D) A consumer may not think of household cleaning products as : Is active, Does not change the meaning even if it changes from Consumers to A consumer. Apart from this this is a kind of generalization which I would prefer to have in present tense.
(E) Household cleaning products may not be thought of, by consumers, as

Hi Gunjan,

Do you mean, both the sentences below are valid? I doubt!

Consumers may not think of household cleaning products to as hazardous substances, but many of them can be harmful to health, especially if they are used improperly.

A consumer may not think of household cleaning products to as hazardous substances, but many of them can be harmful to health, especially if they are used improperly.

Please correct me if am wrong.

Well, I would say yes form meaning point of view (Grammatically no). Imagine somebody giving a customer -focused presentation in the marketing:--> both gives the same notion.

But, doesn't "but many of them" need "Consumers" rather than "A Consumer" ?

'Many of them' here is referring to household cleaning products and not to 'consumers' or 'a consumer'

How is it clear that "them" is referring to the products and not to consumers? Isnt it confusing?

Consumers cannot be harmful for their own health!
Also "cleaning products" is the immediate noun refering to "them"
