Statement 1 is sufficient;
there are 9 participants so let's say a total of 15 can be awarded; 5+4+3+2+1 = 15
Now if team 1 gets 6 points and team 2 gets 6 points (both the max. amount given) then team 3 gets 3 points. So each team got atleast 1 point.
Statement 2 not sufficient; Lets say Team 1 = A, B, C
Team 2 = D, E, F
Team 3 = G, H, I
so now according to the statement let's say this is how the race ended up;
A,D,B,E,C,F so team 3 gets no points at all. But if the race ended up A,D,G,B,E,H, then all 3 teams are awarded a point each. So the statement has two possible scenarios so it alone is not sufficient making the answer A.
